Is it weird that this mild-ish winter we're having here in KC is a little... disappointing? If the forecast is right, though, tomorrow I'll get a WHOLE LOT of winter to catch up with.
TRAINING
Now that the holidays are over we're back in full swing!
At the Kansas City Presas Arnis Meetup, we did a deep dive into the details of everything you learn when you train a sinawali drill. We talked about range, targeting, footwork, chambering, angles of striking, and how to mix and match patterns.
At Elite Dragon Martial Arts Presas Arnis class, I taught the class the Redonda drill, then we caught up on reviewing current material since we've been on a holiday break.
I was inspired to introduce Redonda by this video from Bruce Chiu at Arnis International (the guy holding the sticks is GM Bruce Chiu, the guy doing the drill is Punong Guro Tye Botting - I've trained with and under both men):
BLOGGERY
Monday: What I'm Doing in 2020
Tuesday: THAT GUY: The Scaredy-Cat
Wednesday: Little Details: Strike Mechanics
Thursday: In the Elements
You can find the Stick Chick Blog on most of your favorite social media platforms, including MeWe, Facebook, Twitter (although that's actually far more Chiefs-y than Martial Arts-y this time of year), Tumblr, Instagram and even Pinterest!
YES, you can TOTALLY come train with me! You join us in Kansas City at the Kansas City Presas Arnis Meetup on Sundays or at Elite Dragon Martial Arts Presas Arnis class on Mondays!
OTHER COOL STUFF I SAW
While the blog was on hiatus, it was "Ninja Week" and "Blade Week" over on Facebook, so go check out some of my favorite memes on those themes.
Datu Tim Hartman has re-started his "Modern Arnis Minute" series (yay!). I've always thought that material was some of the best out there. Here's the newest edition (another one come out today so keep an eye out):
FRIDAY THOUGHTS
My Beloved Kansas City Chiefs play this weekend in the NFL's AFC Division round of the playoffs, and hopefully they'll emerge victorious! GO CHIEFS!
Y'all stay safe, have fun, and keep training!
