My Week in Stick Chicktivity - 12/3/21

Wow, it's been a long time since I did one of these.

If you're new to the blog, every Friday I round up things I saw and did in the martial arts for the week. Hence, "Stick Chicktivity".

So here we go:

TEACHING:

At Kindred Protective Arts, we've decided to evaluate and promote our beginner level students in our kids & adults programs in February.

Given we built the school based on the Meetup (which was all over the place) and Elite Dragon (more on that below)... we're spending time with people in that beginner level to make sure we cover all of the material and skill sets we're looking for in order to promote them.

Heck, we're doing the same thing in our intermediate and advanced belts too, but they're not due to promote yet.

Our curriculum is basically a rotating curriculum, but there are level-specific things (like forms) we need to be sure our students are learning when they're supposed to.

We have a staff class, and we've been playing with various forms of the staff sumbrada. We have four of those... this is the first one, and YES it's SO FREAKING FUN:

DANG, my hair is long!

So that's what we're doing. You can check out Kindred Protective Arts on Facebook and Instagram to see more of what we do on a daily and weekly basis (we even have a YouTube, but I don't update it as often).

If you are wondering why you don't see me in our images/content on FB and Instagram and YouTube... who do you think takes the pictures?

Arnis classes out at Elite Dragon are on hiatus (not just because KPA opened, there's a bunch of factors that all hit at the same time). We are looking to revive training out there in 2022 in a seminar format, and that's all still to be determined.

The Kansas City Presas Arnis Meetup is still a thing, but the time/day of the week is NOT working at all. I am going to figure out how to get it moving again in 2022, as I think there's still an audience and a need for it.

TRAINING:

I have some irons in the fire for training for me, personally, and I'll talk about that if and when it becomes a thing (I have two things I'm pursuing, actually, but they're both sort of in a standstill at the moment).

In Presas Arnis, Mr. Chick and I have been playing with interrupts and variants of the standard right-on-right and left-on-right tapi-tapi patterns.

BLOGGERY:

Hey! I actually posted some this week!

As I'm trying to find a new groove with the blog, the posting schedule is probably going to change. I did not re-run old posts this week, but I'll get back to that next week.

Speaking of next week, Monday is the 8th Anniversary of this blog. Whodathunk I'd still be here after all this time? As I always do, I'll post about in on the Anniversary date.

You can find the Stick Chick Blog on all sorts of social media channels: MeWe, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, and even Pinterest. If you've connected to me personally on LinkedIn, you'll see posts on my profile there as well. I do use Twitter but only for stuff relating to the Kansas City Chiefs, for the most part.

OTHER STUFF:

I haven't spent a lot of my online time in martial arts spaces lately. This section of the Friday post will include podcasts I listen to, YouTube/FB Live stuff I like, events, blog posts by other bloggers, articles I think are worth your time, that sort of thing. You'll see more of that as I get back into the blogging groove here.

Speaking of podcasts, Mr. Chick and I were on "FMA Discussion" with Dean Franco here:

I did another podcast, but it's not out yet, so I'll wait to talk about it until it is.

FRIDAY THOUGHTS:

It's nice to come back to the blog. I've missed it, and I've missed y'all.

Stay safe, have fun, and keep training!
