My Week in Stick Chicktivity - 12/07/18

Hellooo, Friday!

It's December and holiday season and all sort of stuff is going on.

Here's my week in the martial arts. How was yours?

TRAINING

The Kansas City Presas Arnis Meetup started its new schedule of Sunday meetups INDOORS at our new training location! We worked on force-to-force crossada blocking drills (what a lot of you might know as an "x-block"), mainly in double-stick, but demonstrated them empty hand (and no, it's not "stand there and x-block with your bare arms against stuff").

Monday I started learning my new karate form, Sanchin. I got about a third of the way through it (it's difficult).

Tuesday I worked with my private student on Dos Manos blocking drills and demonstrated the practicality of the motions we learn in those drills to every day self defense techniques.

The rest of the week I was busy with life stuff. I have some things in the works that require my attention so I have to knuckle down and do them.

This photo is from Sunday.

BLOGGERY:

Thursday: Five Years Old

Yep, celebrated the 5 year anniversary of the Stick Chick Blog this week! Yay!

Interact with the Stick Chick Blog on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and MeWe, and hey, I've got a Pinterest board, and I post on Google Plus too, until Google offs it.

Note: ANY links to the old blog published before 10/10/18 that you run across online are now broken. They're as gone as your hopes of dropping 20 pounds by Christmas.

OTHER NEATO BURRITO STUFF

While it's not strictly martial arts... the first school I was in often played "inspirational music" while we trained and this was in heavy rotation. Enjoy your ear worm.

Brian Johns at Bamboo Spirit Martial Arts Centre wrote a fantastic blog about private lessons. Read it here: A Milestone

This post from the Modern Kunoichi LITERALLY made me laugh out loud. She gets bonus points for using the word "moxie". Read it here: Monday’s Martial Madness: How to Make a Martial Art Out of ANYTHING

Um, well, that's ONE way to conceal a weapon?

FRIDAY THOUGHTS

This past week was tough to be a Chiefs fan, and the team looked a little discombobulated but they still handed the Raiders a loss (thus officially eliminating them from any hopes of a playoff appearance this year) and we're now 10-2. I will be at the games on Sunday vs. the Ravens AND on Thursday vs. the Chargers. Go Chiefs!

I still am a little flummoxed at the fact I've been writing this blog for five years. While I'm certainly not as long-running as some, I've seen a LOT of martial arts blogs come and go. I don't plant to go anywhere soon, so I hope you'll stick with me for the next five years!

Did you have a fantastic week? I sure hope so. Train fun, and train hard!
