Oh boy, it's Friday! Hooray!
Yeah, due to having to do some last-minute traveling, I didn't do a Stick Chicktivity post last week. So we're gonna double-up this week.
How are y'all doing?
TRAINING
Had a great morning at the Kansas City Presas Arnis Meetup on 10/13. We started teaching the basic 3-8-12 shadow drill, aka "sumbrada". It's one of my favorites to play and I'm glad they're catching on!
I had to do an urgent trip out of town to take care of family matters, so I was gone most of the week and couldn't go to Karate classes. I returned on Friday, promptly got massive migraine that knocked me out for a day and a half, so I missed the Kansas City Presas Arnis Meetup. That sucked.
I was feeling better by Monday 10/22, so I got to get back into Karate class again, and we trained Monday and Wednesday. Knocked all the rust off and it was fun!
BLOGGERY
The ol' blog was back on our normal publishing schedule for the most part, except last Friday. Let's sum up what was posted the past two weeks.
POSTS LAST WEEK:
MONDAY: Why Study Weapons?
TUESDAY: Injury: Nature of the Beast
WEDNESDAY: The Gaps
THURSDAY: The Joy of Newbies
POSTS THIS WEEK:
WEDNESDAY: Knocking the Rust Off
THURSDAY: 11 Quick Tips About Arnis (for Newbies)
You can find the Stick Chick Blog on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and MeWe, and hey, I've got a Pinterest board, and I post on Google Plus too! Face it - you can't avoid me on the internet.
Note: ANY links to the old blog published before 10/10/18 that you run across online are now broken. Much like the Norwegian Blue Parrot, they've joined the choir invisible.
OTHER NEATO BURRITO STUFF
And I thought the FMA's were a small niche!
And there's more of us every day, pervs, so start thinking twice.
"A" knife?
Some good blogs from other folks, including:
Volunteer Misstep: about the dangers of using volunteers to run your dojo
Monday's Martial Madness: I Like White Belts: fun parody of the Sir Mix-a-Lot classic
Notes on the Sweep Stroke: Brian Johns tackles one of my biggest pet peeves in Arnis
How am I just now discovering these two videos? They're 12 years old!
Can't let this post end without the obligatory video from Master Ken:
FRIDAY THOUGHTS:
Glad to be back to relative "normal" with training (crossing my fingers nothing else interrupts stuff), although we're entering the holiday season starting next week, and you know how that can be.
Hey, the holiday season starts with Halloween, people.
I got to attend the Chiefs game on 10/21 and I'll be at the game this Sunday, 10/28. Life is good if you're a Chiefs fan these days, lemme tell ya.
I'd tell you guys to be good but I know too many of you personally. I'll see you on Facebook and in the dojo.
