My Week in Stick Chicktivity - 11/04/17

Here's how my week of training, writing, teaching, and miscellaneous Filipino Martial Arts-y goodness went.

What have you been up to this week?

THE WEEK DAY-BY-DAY:

Saturday:  Two hours of kobudo practice, an hour of Arnis, and then we did Halloween fun at our city's Hoot n'Howl.
Sunday:  Went to the Tiny Home Expo. I am fascinated with the idea of downsizing into a tiny house someday. Very fun!
Monday:  Watched my Kansas City Chiefs defeat divisional rival Denver Broncos. Back on track!
Tuesday:   Halloween!  It's my anniversary, but we usually don't celebrate it on the actual date.  Took Younger Daughter trick or treating.
Wednesday:   Celebrated our anniversary at Pinstack.  It's awesome - it's like a Chuck-e-Cheese for grownups with more alcohol and far less creepy animatronic bands.  Every anniversary I feel like I need to do something physically challenging - their ropes course was pretty easy but this year's challenge was the rock climbing walls.
Thursday:   We had a special visitor to Mid-Cities Arnis.  The person who first handed me a stick and said, 'Try this", Master David Jones, visited.  He showed our students (and visitors) things about pressure points and joint locks.  Very fun, and so glad to reconnect with him again.
Friday:  Instead of stick sparring, we worked on relating what Master Jones taught to some things we do in sticks and in our self defense techniques.  Lots of stick locking and disarms using "circles".

Me on the 2nd easiest rock wall. Hey, I made up three in progressive difficulty, more than once. Not bad!

BLOGGY GOODNESS:

Here's the new posts or reshared older posts I sent out this week:

OTHER STUFF THAT I SAW/DID:

If you want to see pictures of Mr. Chick having fun with our teacher David Jones, check it out on the Mid-Cities Arnis page HERE.

I've been at seminars where the backs of my hands get TORN UP because of this problem. After a while, the goal is to disappear before they see me and try to pair up...

Read Joelle White's first trip to a self defense seminar: A Self Defense Seminar.  How did I miss that Joelle was promoted to Brown Belt?  Geesh, bad friend I am.  Congrats on that promotion, Joelle!

Master Ken and weapons?  YEEESSSS.  Note that if you subscribe to "Enter the Dojo", you can see he's putting out a LOT of great videos lately.  Please do make sure to rate, share, comment, etc.  It all helps keep "Enter the Dojo" more visible.

I can't embed it due to the video settings, but this video over on Facebook (knife defense instruction) never fails to make me laugh.  Go see it on Facebook HERE.

If you run across cool martial arts stuff you think I should see, please do post them in the comments!

FINAL THOUGHTS OF THE WEEK:

Our association, AKATO, has its annual tournament today.  As I have no students competing and I am just not that into competing myself, and Hidden Sword's classes are canceled today... I don't have any martial arts classes or seminars to attend today.

That's right, I'm at home today, not running around to fifty million martial arts things for a change. I also have no firm martial arts plans for tomorrow, either.

Of course I'll practice Kobudo (test is two weeks away) and there's some administrative stuff I need to get done for older daughter college apps and her driving test, and there's some blog work I've been wanting to get done...

But yeah, it's a rare downtime weekend for the Stick Chick.  I might even go... gasp!... SHOPPING!

So what did YOU do this week?  What did you train? What did you teach?  Did you see any really cool martial arts stuff online?  Let me know!
